I'd love to see an detailed comparison with side by side screenshots to say how gg is a bad choice here. FFF is very respected too, but it's not there's a night and day difference here.
Actually, I did a side-by-side comparison on... well, the most difficult part of the first episode. [gg] won by a landslide, pun intended. Commie was second.
For that matter, DmonHiro, you can use some of Commie's typesetting if you want, gg lacked in that aspect. Hm, not that I remember that much signs anyway, which is kind of rare for a Shaft show (thus it doesn't really matter). Inb4 somebody does typeset that lesbian scene from the next-to-last episode, and kills 99% of the computers fore the vsfilter computing requirements.
I don't understand all that hate on gg subs... personally I have went with gg aswell after comparing first ep. from various groups. Thanks Dmon for release
(for all complainers - learn2use mkvmerge/aegisub duh)
[gg] corrected the opening translation later on, btw.
Also, I get something really weird, as the opening font doesn't render corre... exactly as it rendered in [gg]'s release, but I would guess that's local, as I can't figure out a problem in your release.
Other titbids from episode 1: 05:17 - the gg script avoids a scrolling text that doesn't exist in the bds, so the subs shouldn't jump this time. 10:27 - end of line mistimed, is 10:28.64, should be 10:32.64
I made a patch for episode 01. I fixed the jumping lines, timed that one line correctly, and fixed the OP font. The problem was.... that the font name actually has a space in the name. So... I had to add a space in the subs for it.
(Original anon) Tbh I didn't really like that show that much anyway. I was just empathizing with the people who actually liked the show and were distraught at the subpar subs. I mean, I know its your site, your BDs, etc., but even if you enjoyed gg's subs for the show, there is pretty much always a better option.
And how exactly do you know there's a better option? Can you actually speak Japanese? If you do, then you can provide example, but since this question never EVER gets the answer "yes, I do speak Japanese", it's a moot point.
I don't speak Japanese, so no I can't say whether it's translated right nor not. However, I'm a native born English speaker, so I can tell when something isn't written in correct English, which happens with gg a lot.(Commie too, but that's not who we're talking about)
I always laugh my ass off when I see a statement like this, especially when it contains mistakes/typos. No, being native does not automatically warrant that you know what's correct. I speak from experience with both native English speakers (which is my second language) and native Czech speakers (which is _my_ native language). And no, I usually refrain from making any statements of correctness of someone's English (unless they're obvious mistakes or typos like confusing their with they're), especially given that I'm never sure when it's appropriate to use a comma in English (I'd say in your comment they aren't used 100% correctly, but I'm not sure).
Also, incorrect English might be intentional in translated work. If you do not know the original language, you can hardly ever be sure that that's not the case. (I'm not making any statements about gg's subs being the case. I tend to overlook mistakes in subs as I focus more on the story flow than grammar. As such, I liked gg's in this show.)
Thank you very much! I'm very grateful that you're taking the time to do this since no one else (I think) is releasing the BD for Sasami-san@Ganbaranai.
GG really? Provide multiple subs please D:
ReplyDeleteNope. I only use one set of subs, and that's usually the one I watched and enjoyed.
DeleteI watched and enjoyed gg's subs for this.

No, I won't be using Commies TS.

Delete(for all complainers - learn2use mkvmerge/aegisub duh)
Yeah, this anime's a bit weird but the artwork character design and animations are so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteUgh gg no. Will wait for someone to use FFF's subs then.
ReplyDeleteThanks for coming, and don't let the url hit you on the way out.

Oh... of course. I thought it may be something like that, but didn't notice said space. Thanks!
DeleteYeah, hate to be a dick like everyone else but gg's subs are bad. Readable, but bad.
ReplyDeleteThen you'd better hope someone else releases the BD version with other subs.
DeleteIt's far from bad... and iirc, episodes 4 and 6+ are translated by Vale, so at least these should be really good.

DeleteAh, so you are complaining about their editing, not translation. Fair enough.

Nice, I was afraid no one was going to do this.
ReplyDeleteFear no more.
DeleteVol 2 is out. Coming soon?
ReplyDeleteWith this being a Shaft show, I'd just like to make sure - is there any difference between the BD and TV in terms of censoring or touch-ups et al?
ReplyDeleteOf course there is, but nothing serious for now.
DeleteThank you very much! I'm very grateful that you're taking the time to do this since no one else (I think) is releasing the BD for Sasami-san@Ganbaranai.
ReplyDeleteWhy all the hate for gg? I've actually had good experiences with their subs so far.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Been waiting for this. I can't wait for you to finish the series so I can watch it :)
ReplyDelete>Using gg subs
ReplyDeleteggthxbye
are gonna batch this ?
ReplyDeleteAs always, yes.
DeleteI always batch.
That's why You are Awesome =)
DeleteSo is this batch gonna be up soon or are you going over mistakes or something?
DeleteBatch episode 2 has no CRC attached.
ReplyDeleteYou're right. You can add it yourself. It's C24063D6.
DeleteThanks for the release! It's not perfect (I mean, the subs aren't), but still very watchable! Thanks one more time!
