^ The TV versions didn't have them. And I think gg translated them only for the 4 BD releases they did. Hence only 1-4 having preview trans.

The hatred for Umineko is largely because the anime is terrible in every way compared to the VN it's based on. While the anime takes the same premise, which is brilliant and hence has led some people to like it, the characters, mystery, epic-ness, emotion, music, etc are all infinitely better originally. It was a half-assed adaptation with much less impact and half of the story ripped out at random. To the point where a continuation is almost impossible thanks to the numerous plotholes and the commercial failure of the series.
ReplyDeleteAh well, regardless, thanks for doing this. Someone had to release the series with decent quality and less of gg's bullshit.
Regarding the previews, there are actually YouTube videos with subtitles for all of them, so the translation does already exist. Though I understand if you couldn't be bothered adding all those in. The previews were by far the best part of the series, though, so it's a shame. Unlike the anime, they appeared to be made by someone who had actually seen the source material.

I discovered the 1st half of this murderous mystery in the depths of my hard-drive one dreary spring morn and before I knew it I'd devoured all 12 in a single sitting. I'm downloading the remaining part now and hopefully it'll be just as trollicious as the 1st half.
ReplyDeleteI noticed a problem in Episode 6 however. The timing for a couple of signs is off. Specifically the Yakisoba sign at 16:08 and the Maid Cafe sign at 16:12. They're a little late to show up and then they hang around a little long so they bleed into the next scene. Would you be able to fix these in a patch please? They stand out to me because all other signs I saw were great so these few rebels bug me a bit. If you can find the time to tweak this that would be awesome thanks :)

DeleteI guess I got a hold of an older or alternate version of this anime at NyaaTorrents, on episode 25, file name: [DmonHiro] Umineko No Naku Koro Ni 25(3F28C06C).mkv, just when the 'outro' starts, instead of showing the usual subs about translator and typesetter etc... we get a FUCKING RANT about someone (I don't know who, I just erased the torrent) being a "mid 40's rapist, pervert... etc".
