OK guys, it's that time again. Suggestion time. I know, I know, I haven't really done anything much from the last list, but I lost my job, and RL is a bitch. Anyway, suggest away.
There are rules, of course:
1. The show must have available raws. Can't encode what I don't have.
2. The show must not have been released in BD before. Also counts if it is currently being released by a group.
3. The show must have been SOFT subtitled. If there are no subs available I won't do it.
4. The BD must not be a crappy upscale.
For the record: No matter what I pick, it's going to be 720p 10bit video with AAC audio.
Legend (Updated):
Red: Not accepted.
Blue: Considering.
Green: Accepted.
Purple: Already released/being released.

Nisemonogatari:UTW will eventually do it.
Medaka Box: I don't think so, the TV rip was very HQ and the BD is pretty poor quality.

Sora No Otoshimono Forte: Even if it kills me.
Nazo No Kanjo: Get it from Final8.
Last Exile Ginyoku no Fam: I'll pass. The BDs aren't of very good quality anyway.

Campione: If nobody picks it up, yeah, sure.

KoiKoi7: Probably not, but I'll consider it.
Saki: Achiga-hen: Already being done by Nozomi, though there have been no updates.

Kore wa Zombie desuka? Of the Dead: mtwini09 is releasing it.
Upotte!: A most definite possibility.

Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere (Season 2): Zurako will pick it up.
Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse: I don't like the show at all. Sorry.
Seitokai no Ichizon: I'm not really interested in the show, and the Bluray will be a poor upscale, most likely.

Full Moon Ga Sagashite: Great show, but way too long for me.

Nurse Angel Ririka (22-35): Will eventually get to that.

Medaka Box and Sengoku Collection have absolutely no changes from BD, and both have superb TV rips. It's getting to the point where the TV signal form Japan is so good, you only need BD rips for shows that are either censored, or have a lot of action that surpasses the bitrate available to a TV broadcast.

ReplyDeleteHave you considered Last Exile Ginyoku no Fam ? The BD are near from being all released (21 out of 23 episodes), I searched on Nyaa and TokyoTosho but it seems no one has released the BD, only the raws have been. I've kept Commie TV release for a while but I'm (still) hoping for a fansub that will do the BD one. ^^
The BD quality of Fam is dreadful. Rumors have it that they had very little budget. It shows. Also, while there are a few fixes here and there, there are no real changes to the show.

Don't do Nisemonogatari. I want BDs as much as the next guy, but it would be a nightmare to work on by yourself, even if you use Commie's typesetting as a base. The ts for the show is worse than Maria Holic: Alive. Also, UTW said they'll be doing it (although it's being done by 8thSin and Kusion so it will take a few years).

I know how a show can suddenly become hated when you have to go thru and re-do all the mistakes, timeshifting, additional tl etc. when that happens, kiss it goodbye or do it yourself. I am not trying to be mean but I am still waiting for 4 seperate groups to finish older shows that they promised would be done "BECAUSE WE NEVER DROP SHOWS".

Nadesico is a 4:3 show, so 1280x960 is perfectly acceptable. Technically wrong, but since the source is 1440x1080, it's OK.

Apparently a 10bit encode of the show popped up this year (whoops), but no good encodes of the omake exist, that I can find.

It'd also be _amazing_ if someone could do Blue Seed from the BDs. They were shared publicly when they came out, but it doesn't look like anyone kept the shares active.
It's a shame that no one wants to do Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien...

DeleteFair enough, that is your opinion. But, consider this: KGNE is a very popular anime. A large number of people love it to death. Yet nobody has released a BD version of it. It can't be because it isn't popular, so the only logical reason would be that encoders (people with quite the experience in video) have come to the conclusion that it is a bad upscale. So you, who think that the upscaled bluray version looks better, is in the vast minority.

DeleteYep I have no experience in video whatsoever, and still i can totally see that in the DVD version in the first screenshot ringing artifacts (I think that's how it's called) on her hair in the upper left corner. Not to mention the aliazing and overall blurriness. If you tell me these experienced encoders would prefer useless detail and keep all the above, what a sad world we live in...

I am not sure if Ebiten is even going to have BDs at all, but if it indeed is released, it seems like exactly the type of show you are searching for....

ReplyDeleteDurarara - Coalgirls (completed), Tari Tari - Coalgirls, Inu x Boku SS - line0... none for Kokoro Connect. So, I think the chance of Dmon picking up the first 3 is quite unlikely though I'm not sure about Kokoro Connect.

DeleteActually I kinda wonder about Inu x Boku SS, as the final volume for the bluray had already been released. line0 only released episode 1 though as of for now. So, just in case if line0 suddenly stop releasing (if it happens, let's just hope it won't happen) its very own version of Inu x Boku SS, would you consider doing this series Dmon?

ReplyDeleteIt wasn't. It was only available on the VHS set. Maybe on the Laser Disc as well, but no Laser Disc rips have ever surfaced. Those were uncensored as well.

ReplyDeleteI would love to see Kurozuka. I don't know if the BD raws are available though. The best release so far has animax stickers on screen and I strongly belive that a better quality rip should be possible. DVD raws are available but I don't know if it's better or worse than HD-tv raws.
